Used by Arborists/Horticulturists for Transplanting Trees, Aeration, locating roots for utility line installation, radial trenching, root collar excavation, root damage investigation, locating roots for pruning, soil compaction reduction, vertical mulching.

Also used for Trench Rescue where it is vital to remove the victim quickly without causing further injury. Hand digging is slow, labor intensive and could cause a cave-in, which is also dangerous to the rescuers. A vacuum truck is used to dig a sump pit near the victim and the Air-spade used to blow the soil away from the victim into the sump until he/she can be lifted out.
